About Me: Hi, I’m Mechele
Allow me to share a bit about me and and how I came to open my practice.
I’m Mechele de Avila Evans, LCSW. After earning my bachelor’s degree at the University of Michigan, I then got my master’s in Social Work there. I read too many Anne Rice books and fell in love with her portrayal of New Orleans, so I moved to New Orleans after graduation.
As a Junior Baby Social Worker, I cut my teeth working with people who were hospitalized for chemical dependency or mental health issues. I later moved down the block to work for the State at Jefferson Parish Human Services Authority, where we started the first clinic that worked with people with mental health as well as addiction at the same time. That was quite a concept back in the old days!
I started my first private practice in New Orleans in 2005, and then moved to Baton Rouge in 2010 to marry my wonderful husband.
After working in various agencies, I decided that I wanted to do what I really loved: private practice. So, I reopened my practice here in Baton Rouge. I’ve honed my listening skills over almost 30 years of practice. I’ve earnestly studied how to treat trauma, depression and anxiety. I provide compassionate counseling services to adults in Louisiana. I do not judge you, I empower you. I work with you and support you with insights and tools to guide you on your wellness journey.
About Me: a Compassionate Therapist
There is a place that is peaceful – where you are accepted no matter what you look like, what color your skin or hair is, who you love (as long as they are consenting adults) or what you believe in. Here you are accepted, you are cared about, you are listened to, and you are taught how to love yourself.
Welcome to My Office
Here, you don’t have to pretend or put on an act. You can simply be yourself. Working with a therapist should feel safe and supported, and that is what you’ll find here. You can be vulnerable and know that I am here to help you.
A Journey for the Brave
This is not a journey for the faint of heart – not a trek the couch potato will make. This is your journey back to life – where you will kick depression and anxiety in the ass and win back your life. With my support and professional guidance, you can regain your sense of self and well-being.
Yes, there is some work involved. Yes, you can handle it – and we will take it at your pace. I will be on the sidelines cheering you along all the way. We’ll focus on what you can do to change the situation, thoughts, or behaviors that no longer serve you, and give you relief that you so desperately need. You’ve had enough people rip you down.
Let’s build you back up! Let’s get all of that negative crap out of your head. It no longer serves you, and you are the Master of your own mind. Together, we will find and heal the pain and the hurt you feel. I will remind you that you’re human, like everyone else. You don’t need a perfect life – just a “good enough” one where you’re happy and thriving.
So, come in, take off your shoes, and curl up on the couch, if you want. Be comfortable. Take a deep breath. Learn to love to relax. Learn to live the life you love.
